NATURAL GAS
CENTRAL GAS
First step: the fuel gas is mixed with the pressurized air, producing combustion and turning the gas turbine
Second step: heat from combustion converts water into steam
Third step: Pressurised steam drives the blades of the steam turbine
Fourth step: the mechanical energy produced by the turbines is converted into electrical energy in the generator
Fifth step: the steam is cooled and converted into water to start a new steam production process
ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN
Introducion:
Last week, the Austrian Defence Minister, Klaudia Tanner, said that there is a high probability (100% more than in the next five years) of a power outage that will massively affect not only Austria, but the entire European Union. Not just that, actually. The same Minister assured that the Government was working on that and hoped to build an autonomous infrastructure that would allow the country to continue to function. “The question is not whether there will be a big blackout, but when”, Tanner said.
Since there is no gas (like other raw materials), there is no electricity because gas is one of the main elements to produce electricity. The blackout may also be due to the rise in prices on the light, because people (some), don’t have to give so much
POLLUTION
Natural gas is one of the elements that pollute the environment. Natural gas means cleaner combustion than other fossil fuels, as it produces very few amounts of sulphur, mercury and other particulates. Burning natural gas produces nitrogen oxide, although at lower levels than petrol and diesel.
